Have you ever seen a flower and thought «Get flattened, you son of a bitch!»? No? Well, then you’ve probably never made a herbarium.
A few springs ago I started hunting flowers. placed them within heavy books and pressed them by placing dumbbells on top of said books. And then I forgot about them. They’re still in the books. Many similar cases!
And then came spring 2026. I bought a cheap flower press kit, and went out into the wild. Most were easy pickings, though the marsh-marigold required me to navigate a… marsh. Name sort of gave it away.
Anyways, I pressed the flowers and forgot all about them until today. With great care, I placed them into a sketchbook I don’t use, and wrote their Latin names. And so, now I have the first 7 or so pages of a herbarium. Probably won’t continue with this for a while since I’ll be traveling for almost a year, and I don’t want to end up accused for some eco-crime in a foreign country where it’s potentially illegal to bring local flowers across a border. So we’ll leave it at this for now.
Here’s the pages:

Update: I just noticed that a viola flower infiltrated the Hepatica Nobilis collection. Moral of the story: don’t trust violas.
